Are my kids the only ones who ask for a different sweet after they’ve had one?!
I always offer fruit or real ‘food’ if they’re still hungry…and without fail, there is pushback. It’s amazing the tantrums that follow. As you can imagine I am still trying to find some healthy treats for the kids to eat.
This past weekend, I was cleaning out the kitchen drawers and found some old cookie cutters (that have probably never been used).
I gave them to my daughter, who finds a use for EVERYTHING..and she used to make a necklace, while asking for a snack… hm ok.
We started to talk about the idea of tracing shapes onto plates and those would be the ‘sections’ for our foods. She asked if she could have some apple slices and berries in the designated shapes.
Of course!
Without any prompting, she asked if she could use her new cookie cutters on her fruit… well what a great idea, and if that was going to get her to eat the fruit, then FOR SURE!
She decorated her plate with the new shapes, but she wasn’t even trying to eat the fruit, so I gave her a kabob stick to see what would happen. She started stacking her fruit and was so intrigued that she could make HERSELF a rainbow SNACK! (Key words there)
It was amazing to watch her just go for it.
So, she created her own colorful, fun, fruit kabob…. AND ENJOYED EATING IT!
